Contemporary Greek art is experiencing a period of renewed confidence, driven by artists who combine personal narratives with international perspectives while remaining deeply connected to place.
Their work explores memory, landscape, identity, and the intimate relationship between nature and everyday life, creating visual languages that resonate far beyond Greece's borders.
The emergence of venues such as UKKA LELLE in Andros illustrates this new direction.
By bringing together contemporary art, design, jewellery, and creative programming, the space demonstrates how commercial initiatives can also become cultural destinations, encouraging dialogue between different artistic disciplines while attracting audiences who may not traditionally visit galleries.
For artists, exhibiting on the islands offers more than visibility during the summer season. It provides an opportunity to engage with diverse international audiences in environments where art is experienced more slowly and personally.
For visitors, discovering contemporary Greek art within the unique context of the islands creates a meaningful encounter that extends beyond tourism, offering a deeper understanding of Greece's living cultural landscape.
PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION
SECRET GARDEN
By Eni Koukoula
This exhibition guides us through a garden of privacy, into gardens both real and imaginary. At first glance, the "garden"—the secret one—is the beauty or the grace of a vibrant flower.
Yet, it is also our hidden inner self, a secret, mystical reading of internal harmony. The shadow of a flower upon a wall. Images of a strange bliss found in the minimal, serving as an antidote to the modern, the harsh, or the ugly.
"By looking at the outside, we recognize the inside," the artist comments. "In the outside, we recognize who we are within. In our secret garden, we hide all our treasures.
The ones we discover little by little. The ones we settle upon, and the place where we are whole. With eyes half-closed."
The eye rests upon the yellow of a freesia, but the pink of a rose harbors a certain peculiarity against the deep horizon of an estate.
The safe environment of a domestic vase neither negates nor is negated by the shadow behind it. The titles are strange, evocative, and sometimes realistic; some offer a nod to literature. "A throw of the dice will never abolish chance," reads one title... (Mallarmé).
This work continues from where it left off in 2019, during her last exhibition in 2019-2020 at Photagogos (To Rodakio Publications) under the same title.
Nestled in the heart of Chora, on the historic Kaïris Square—one of Andros' most vibrant and iconic meeting places, UKKA LELLE has opened a luminous new destination where fashion and art come together in an atmosphere of contemporary elegance and creative energy.
Jewellery, handbags, accessories, and Home Accessories coexist in an inspiring setting, shaped by the island's distinctive summer spirit and effortless charm.
Behind the brand is Marilina Deligiannopoulou, who, after a successful career in sales management and public relations, chose to pursue a more personal and creative path.
Beginning with jewellery and gradually expanding her creative vision into handbags and luxury accessories, she has built a brand distinguished by its refined aesthetic and unmistakable identity.
Her work has been presented in exhibitions throughout Greece and internationally, including at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in New York. Her creations have also been featured in museums and carefully selected art and design venues, reflecting the artistic vision that defines her work.
For the past decade, UKKA LELLE has maintained a strong presence in Kolonaki, Athens, where it has become a recognised destination for distinctive contemporary design.
The brand's journey in Andros began in the summer of 2025 with a successful pop-up store that quickly captured the attention of visitors. Today, the space has become a permanent destination, a bright and welcoming environment where creativity and aesthetics are expressed with authenticity and ease.
The space showcases UKKA LELLE's collections—jewellery, handbags, accessories, and the new Home Accessories line, alongside a carefully curated selection of objects that complement and enhance the brand's distinctive aesthetic.
Every detail has been thoughtfully considered to create an atmosphere where craftsmanship, individuality, and creative expression naturally come together.
More than a retail space, UKKA LELLE aspires to become a destination for inspiration, creativity, and artistic expression.
Throughout the summer, a series of carefully curated experiences and special events will bring the space to life, ensuring that every visit offers something new to discover.
