Ιοanna Tsachtsirli
« MAIΡΑ »painting

The sun is the beginning of everything, life, expression, art.
This eternal source of life was glorified by Elytis, who more than anyone emphasized its contribution to Greece. It all started when the sun met the Aegean Sea for the first time and fell in love with it. Their first child was the Cycladic figurine, the beginning of Greek art and a symbol that became the most powerful and well recognized in the world a symbol of fertility, regeneration, worship and divine power. The same symbolism that was given to Greek light and has been a source of inspiration for artistic creations throughout history. Aegean “ΜΑΙΡΑ” gave life to painting, poetry, literature, photography, cinema and theater.
It was this light that touched the painter, Ioanna Tsachtsirli, the sun that warmed her and gave her the need to create. The fruits of this creative need are her versions of the Cycladic Figurines as seen from an internal point of view.

This exhibition is not a collection of portraits but a personal expression of the feelings the figurines woke in the painter.
