The Karamarlis family originated in the village of Makrinitsa and continue to play an important role in the life of this historical community to present day. The family originated in around 1700 when the first Archontiko was built by George Nikolaos Karamarlis. The present owner has the same given name. The fabulous Archontiko hotel in Makrinitsa village boasts the same graphical scenery that has molded several generations of the Kararmarlis family. The unforgettable George Karamarlis lived in Makrinitsa village from childhood and soon became occupied with tannage and jewelry. He was a well-known patriot in the area and helped the Greek liberation in its fight against the Turkish tyranny. He also participated in the Balkan wars and then in old age joined the resistance against the German occupation.

George Karamarlis, the son of Nikolaos Karamarlis married Katerina Delligiannis, the daughter of Nikolaos Delligiannis, which is also a family with roots in Makrinitsa. The marriage took place at the archontiko homestead, which is a part of the hotel today. The privilege of marriage in the family house is an exclusive privilege of a lord. Later George Karamarlis' children and grandchildren followed in his footsteps by continuing the family tradition of making decisive contributions to the development of the local community. For example, the belfry of Makrinitsa's church is a donation from the Karamarlis family.
